Hall Closet: The Devil Wears Who?
I was recently flipping thru the pages of last months VOGUE Paris and I came across this editorial paying homeage to America's Queen of Style. Yes, Anna Wintour (editor-in-chief of VOGUE magazine), was channeled by supermodel Snejana Onopka in a spread that exuded the grandness and poise that Ms. Wintour possesses.
After reading the verbage and studying the pictures, it made me respect the noted philanthropist even more. In 2006, the movie "Devil Wears Prada" was loosely based off of her profound career. With the help of her fabulous and saavy Editor-at- Large, Mr. Andre Leon Talley, Anna Wintour has become one of the most powerful women in fashion. Catch the rest of the spread after the jump as well as an interview with the real Anna Wintour.

LB Watch: Majk Mychael
The Lateboots staff and I attended an event at Moda 404 Boutique hosted by Atlanta Peach Magazine . It was a casual mixer that featured the latest exclusives to hit the boutique by designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Tom Ford. Guests in attendance were entertained by the Moschino Spring/Summer ’08 runway show and waiters topping you off with Moet untill you forced them to stop. I was frustrated because I had to tell the waitress numerous of times that I did not want any dacquoise, I wanted tortes filled with warm rhubarb compote.
While there, I ran into my good friend Mychael Knight (Bravo's Project Runway). We chatted over a few drinks and he informed me of his new fragrance, Majk (which will be in stores soon). He sent me over some samples the next day and I must say I loved it! To find more about the fragrance and upcoming projects, Click>>Mychael Knight

Carta: Wait, Let Me Fix My Hair
So back in 06' I won the Best Scissors Award at La' Jenkins Beauty School ( kidding). On a serious note: Ladies and Gents, keep your hair together. A lot of people tend to ask my advice on hair. For men, I say the importance is hair maintenance. I’d suggest a haircut or lineup at least once a week in order to keep a fresh look. Fellas, we have it easy.
Personally, I actually carry a pair of scissors in my man-bag to pull out whenever I see a string of hair sticking up.
(Some people are addicted to liquor and crack) Let me have this one.
In order for a girl to be “beat” (a well-kept girl that everyone is astounded by when she walks into a room), I suggest GOOD extensions. Ladiesdon't be afraid; extensions give you a totally different look or can at least give your hair more volume at any length. However the key once again is MAINTENANCE. Whatever you decide to do, just make sure your hair looks healthy and avoid over-greasing. We all want for you to have natural looking hair.
PS.
LADIES: THIS BOB THING IS GETTING LATE. Beyonce did it back in 03 with the "Me Myself and I" video and Rihanna pumped it under an umbrella all this summer. Everyone is getting one now and it's starting to become overkill. FELLAS: These 80's parts? I mean it was hot this spring of ‘07 but it is beginning to look a bit childish. You’re 29 with some parts in your head,
NONSENSE.
Remember people, we are our own billboards!!!

Juice Box : Gucci Edition
Streetwear is definitely taking a turn towards more luxurious pieces. Dope boys go crazy for Gucci. Last year the hot craving was anything Louis Vuitton; every other rapper had that LV leather belt or the book bag with the signature print. This year it’s all about the Gucci accessories. Even though I hate seeing everyone rocking the same thing but, if you’re going to do it, let me show you how. So here’s a peak at some pieces from Gucci’s Fall/Winter 07 collection that I think will help jump off that sick fit this winter. So go get your money little duffle bag boy.

Juice Box : Sneaker Pimps Review
The other day Sham & I decided to hit Sneaker Pimps, a sneaker-inspired event held at the Atlanta Contemporary Art museum. I guess you could say I was half skeptical and half excited about the show since I didn’t make it out last year. Not to mention, it was hosted by the notoriously whack sneaker company, K-Swiss… “I wear my k-swiss, I-wear-my-k-swiss” (LOL). The kicks varied from outlandish & x-rated, to artistic and complex. The general crowd consisted of sneaker-heads, fashionistas, and skateboarders. Even thought the rap group, Clipse, headlined the show; breakout artist Yella Wolf stole it with his Beastie-Boys meets Lil Jon style of music. The Verdict: A drawn-out synthesis of street culture, underground music and imaginative sneaker concepts.

Hall Closet: Bootie 101
Pierre Hardy, Walter Steiger, Patrick Cox, Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada, Sergio Rossi , Gucci, and Alessandro Dell'Aqua have really shown their "booties" this Fall 2007.
I'm here to inform you to go for the unknown designers if you dare to be different. It would be less likely to see someone wearing your Patrick Cox's than your Prada's. One thing is for sure, it won't be hard to find something stylish to hit the pavement this Fall. Other labels that carry sick-o-ning (meaning that they are really fashion forward) Fall 2007 shoes include Lanvin, Giambattista Valli, and Roger Vivier.
Women always ask me what they should wear with this Fall's crazy footwear. My advice? Everything! You can wear just about anything with these chic shoes. Pair your gladiator cone heels with anything from ribbed leggings, parka coats, and wide legged pants. If edgy isn't your style and you still want to look fashionable, try Gucci's gold plated Oxfords. They're slightly different from every other designer's take on the modern oxford with the platform sole. If you don't like a chunky heel, go for the chunky sole. Sleek is out - and chunky is what's funky!

The business world can be quite boring. I hate seeing guys in those 8 button Steve Harvey suits at the office. And I can't stand a woman in an over-sized stretch material suit. You don't have to live in New York or Paris to pull off these looks. I say go for it. Bring New York to your job. Copy and paste these looks into your wardrobe. Find pieces that resemble the ones above, cause everybody can't afford runway pieces. (I tried, but ended up wearing that same designer piece all season) All six looks are by 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Describing her look as Jackie O crossed with Debbie Harry meets Stevie Nicks and 1920's punk, 21 year old Agyness Deyn just like these great fashion icons, has her own unmistakable signatures: her platinum blonde crop and incredible street style. Backstage at fashion shows, rocking a cool mix of well-loved labels and hip vintage finds, Deyn puts herself together in a way that's perfectly left of center, or else she's impeccably feminine in a dynamic gown or runway garment that she has probably been the "hanger" for. Being the muse for several designers such as Giorgio Armani, Mulberry, Hugo Boss, and currently Burberry, Agyness Deyn is certainly a "hanger" that you cant keep your creations off of. Back in the late eighties/early nineties, Paris designer Herve' Leger (now Herve Leroux), introduced the elastic-band dress. A skintight silhouette that came in rainbow bright colors and clashing stripes. Last Spring, hints of the style were seen in collections from Proenza Schouler and London's Christopher Kane, but this fall its official: The Herve' Leger label has made an outstanding comeback, with everyone from Lindsay Lohan, to Victoria Beckham wearing his designs. Also stepping out on the scene in this sexy masterpiece of a dress is actress Kate Bosworth and Fashion guru Fabiola Beracasa. The Staff
"“I’ve always tried to find a new elegance, it’s not easy because people want to be shocked. They want explosiveness, but that doesn’t last forever. It merely disappears and leave behind nothing but ashes” - Giorgio Armani
Houston native, Marquis Phifer has always lived by that empowering quote. Driven by his passion for fashion as well as editorial writing, Phifer began his journey as a young boy in Military School hiding under the sheets reading VOGUE when his fellow classmates were out for rugby. After finishing his years under militant surveillance, Phifer embarked on the avenue of interpreting, and flexing his already built muscle for the industry. The next chapter of his life opened up in Atlanta Georgia where he met and networked with local elites.
Once getting into the circle he stumbled upon an opportunity of a lifetime, starting not only his, but Atlanta’s first fashion blog. With the help of some fellow hardworking elites, his dream of writing, and expression has finally come to life. Through this blog he desires to fill your psyche with all the wonderful things that you do and don’t see in the wonderful world of fashion and art. Phifer leaves you with these potent words of wisdom of his own “If you’re not for me, then you’re against me. I will then ask God to work on me to forgive you”.
On Nov. 1, 1987 love was the egg. And that day it hatched a boy so unique, flashy & completely unlike anyone the world had to offer. His affair with fashion began at 8 in the morning when he denied his parents the right to style his image & opted to do his own. Soon British knights, Nylon Sweats & Voltron shirts turned into SB’s, Skinny Jeans & a fire tee. Fast-forward to 2007, a day-in-age un-like before. A time where his style, image and culture, faced ongoing criticism is finally being celebrated. Richy Ro$$ wont disappoint this fall, highlighting the best in street-retro fa$hion worn by Graffiti Artist to Hill Flippers, Misfits & Underdogs.
Fashion is self- expression. No matter if you think you take yourself to seriously to care much about the clothes you wear. When you wake up and make a decision of what you’re going to place on your back, that action in itself relates back to fashion. Self-consciously everyone is involved in fashion every day. Growing up very timidly in a small town in Georgia, I have allowed myself to vent through different apparel and accessories. My vivid colored sneakers and ever-changing hairstyles spoke volumes for a young southern girl. I wouldn't consider myself a tomboy but me and heels just aren't very fond of each other. However, just as fashion is a continuously changing industry, coming into my womanhood who knows what's to come.
My part in LateBOOTs.com will be to keep the reader anticipating every update. To cater to the more causal crowd, some may call it street wear. I’m also here to stand in the gap for those ladies out there, who like to throw sneakers in their fashion game. Having a passion for all aspects of the fashion industry, I want every reader to leave with a message of inspiration and innovation. I will be coming at you hard with what I believe to be top shelf as well as educating our readers about the fashion culture. Is draped in BBC, Dior Homme denims, strapped to the waist with leather Gucci, and laced up in Creative Recreation too much to ask for? Now that's street wear at it’s minimal. Readers of LateBOOTs.com help me take street wear to its highest
level.
Although I have been an avid writer for many years now, I am still at a lost of words, when trying to describe what fashion means to me. Like all art forms, fashion allows people to express themselves just as an easel would do to an enthused painter. I have traveled the world and seen how different styles, different fashion icons, and different designers help shape that particular culture. I always wanted different ways to express myself, whether through art, theater, music, or the mixing and matching of my favorite ensembles. Growing up in Virginia, I was able to incorporate the very eccentric fashion in Washington D.C into my own. I feel that a women looks her best when she is feminine, a true delight to the world. Is there anything more beautiful that seeing a woman in a Rachel Roy summer dress and Chanel wedges?
My contribution to Lateboots.com will be simple: I plan to keep the reader up to date on what I consider to be the best of the best. I want every person who comes to the site to feel like they gained knowledge on fashion but still know that “individuality is key.” I want to take the female audience back to a time when femininity was ok and walking in heels was second to breathing. I want the readers to know Ansley Brown, and know that she is there for them, through all their fashion needs!
Born in Birmingham AL... iCON was always considered to be "eclectic". Being the third child out of four with a single parent, taught him not only to love unconditionally but to also be passionate in every aspect of life. Once realizing FASHION was "his" way of life at a young age, his journey to the runway began. As a grade school student he committed to many things that the normal high school student wouldn’t. Instead of the recreation center after school, he would spend countless hours in the library reading Harpers Bazaar or The New York Times fashion section. He has breathed fashion for as far as he can remember.
Upon entering college he was able to indulge in his passion even more. Becoming Freshman class president at Clark Atlanta University allowed him to start Clark Atlanta University as well the Atlanta University Center's first Fashion Organization PROJECT X. With that brought about many blessings such as the first ever sold out fashion show in Clark Atlanta's history. He has now also conquered several other shows throughout Clark Atlanta, Morehouse College, and Spelman College.
His writing skills are also a vital asset to his career being that fashion editorial is something he desires to embark upon. iCON, born Casey Billingsley has since learned that learning is an on going process that wont cease until his dying day. Being cordial, patient, and God fearing has allowed iCON to be a light in many people’s lives, which makes him happier everyday. He lives by the quote ""You are not the car you drive, the clothes you wear, or the perks you acquire in your line of work, Human kindness is what matters- the luxury of taking the time to say a kind word or to perform a kind deed. That is the only thing that can truly make one's day an enrichment."". -Andre Leon Talley (his inspiration).
The Musical : [PROTON]
I was first introduced to Proton through myspace; I've always looked for new artist to feature on my myspace page. I randomly found them & was blown away! I was thinking, who are these guys giving us these sick beats and lyrics? My first thought, I had to get an interview with them. As time prevailed, I was then granted access into the lives of these spectacular lyricists. [PROTON] is the future and I love what these guys are bringing to the music world!!
What separates you from other artists today?
A sense of resposibility, and character. Some people ARE characters. We actually HAVE character.
Who would you sign with tomorrow?
Labels are like sports franchises, so... either we'd want to be with a team who just won the championship like an Interscope or a Def Jam, or a losing team who would pay us a shitload of money to improve their record.
What is the process of writing for you, what are you most inspired by?
We're often inspired by music we think is horrible. Whether it's the nature of the content, or lack of originality, it makes you feel responsible for providing people with something else, to put their mind's at ease. Of course, at times, the inspiration may be completely random.
Can you tell me more about the messages embedded in your songs?
Sure! For instance, in theory, the song Jheri Khurl has nothing to do with a hairstyle at all. It's about being confident to the point that you don't care what other people think. What's Up Now isn't about'the war'. It addresses the fact that a young person can sign up for duty, serve, and then return home to find the same problems going on at home.
What is your favorite song on the album, why?
Probably "Good Guys". It's a timeless record for all that everyone responds to immediately. That's always a good thing.
What is the story behind your album?
Tentatively titled "State Of The Art", it has a double meaning. Rap music is in a strange place right now, and it seems like no one has the balls to truly do something new and cutting edge. At the sametime, it tells a tale influenced by the torture of relationships and the pathetic nature of loneliness.
What is it about "performing" that satisfies you?
It's the brutal honesty of whether you've "got it" or not.Selling CDs in itself means nothing without the performance aspect. It's possibly the most honest exchange an artist can have with his/heraudience. It's a direct give and take.
Who would you like to work with?
It would be great to work with some of the big names that are out there now, but not just because we paid them the market price. It's a great feeling when people get what you do, and want to work with you based on pure artistry. Additionally, we'd love to work with Rick Rubin, Tricky, Portishead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more.
What artist and or/ genre of music influenced you growing up?
Pharcyde, Hieroglyphics (Del, Souls of Mischief), OutKast, Kilo, A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, Common Sense, DJ Magic Mike, DJ Smurf and Edward Jay.
What projects are you currently working on?
The album "State Of The Art", the mixtape "Girls & Ghetto Shit" which will be released during the September installment of "Broke & BouJee"(09.28.07), and the "Good Guys" video.
How do you want to be remembered in the music industry?
As a couple of rich assholes, because there's a lot of people going broke.
When and where can your music be purchased?
Our old album is available on itunes, our old mixtape is available on
cdbaby.com, the new mixtape will be available at the September edition
of "Broke & BouJee" which will be held in Atlanta on Sept. 28th at
"The Royal".

This month's issue of VOGUE Paris really impacts spring fashion in a major way. Grabbing the cover of this issue is none other than Ms. Runway herself, Giselle Bundchen. Being the face of many designer lines this season, she was a hot commodity in the land of high fashion. Since American VOGUE is the best selling publication in the nation (in my world), I figured I could pay homeage to the gurus overseas. 1-of a-Kind : Fashionista Assignment
Filip Piotr Berdek is one of the flyest guys I've come arcoss lately.
From his in your face fashions, to his pencil thin frame.
He is on his way to becoming a solid name in the fashion industry.
He's 20 and already has his own jewerly line....
Filip loves all aspects of design, fashion; interior, art, architecture and graphics. Growing up around people who all felt the need to look and act the same made the person I am today, and that is the total opposite of who they are. My own motto is "be the most you can be", I never limit myself because I know how much I can do. Standing out in a crowd is what I do, never blend in
Hometown: Born in Poland, living in CT?
Experience: Currently in college, self-taught designer.
Current job: Jewelry Designer.
Stand out traits: Being an individualist, and innovator.
Who is your style icon?
-To be honest, no one. I find icons in everyone and everything that I see. It might be a person walking by me or a new or old celebrity. I like to keep my options open, no limits on inspiration.
What clothing item and brand are your staples?
-A cardigan is a must have. It looks great with anything, it can be dressed up or down. Also, a great leather jacket, preferably a shorter, bomber style. Jeans that are made to fit, no baggy fits, just the perfect pair in a darker wash. As for brand, American Apparel has great basics and Marc Jacobs for great trendy, but at the same time classic pieces.
What must-have wardrobe items should be in every man's/woman's closet?
-A man should have a great fitting suit, a pair of dress pants, loafers, white shirt, and a trench coat. Same goes for women, just add a great simple dress, not necessarily black, and of course great pumps, boots, and flats. Classic pieces which can be worn with more "now" styles.
Got a favorite handbag/men's bag?
-Of course. Any handbag from Marc Jacobs is great, his Marc Fall '07 bag collection for men is my favorite. Every man should have a Gucci portfolio, and every woman should own at least one Marni handbag.
Who is your favorite designer and why?
-I admire Valentino, not necessarily for his clothing, but for his outlook. He always did and continues to do what he likes, not sticking to the trends. Betsey Johnson and Vivienne Westwood because they both have been creating one of a kind pieces with great personal touches for years.
Got a favorite accessory or jewelry piece?
-Yes, I love accessories. A simple necklace is a must for me, and since I make them I have a ton. Also, suspenders and a skinny tie.
How would you describe you personal style?
-Hmmm, just me. Hard to describe, but very innovative and new. I do what I feel works for me. I never buy something off the rack and just wear it, I always feel the need to rework my pieces. A mix of vintage, glam, and a touch of city. I really don't know. I can't just name one.
What is it about fashion that excites you?
-The versatility. So many pieces can be done in so many ways. Fashion makes people feel and of course look better. New and fresh ideas always make me happy.
What direction do you think the fashion industry is going?
-I believe fashion lines are becoming very cliché. It seems as if the fashion industry is not really moving ahead with all the actors and singers wanting their own fashion lines because they simply do not have the same visions as many designers do. New and upcoming designers bring hope to the fashion world because they are offering new outlooks and extremely fresh ideas.
What can you bring different to the fashion industry?
-A lot. Not to come off as an ass, but I really believe I have a lot to offer. I see things in a new light, I never borrow ideas, I set my own rules, I am not boring. I can bring new rules to the fashion world that many designers have simply not done because they stick to the norm. Fashion has to be new, done with an innovative touch, and I know I can offer that.
