One of the many reasons why I love fashion, to put it simply, is for its ability to be inspired by the past, ignore the present and look towards the future. While I loathe nostalgia as much as Diana Vreeland did, it's undeniable that the past is quite inspiring. In light of the aforementioned characteristics that fashion embodies, I fancied in the delight of looking at the pre-fall collections of some of my favorite designers, inspired by the 30's, the 70's and the street. As flashing lights followed, the tripod better known as Karl Lagerfeld, brought the pre-fall collection for his Chanel side to London. Say hello to big hair, thick liner, a brush with ruffles, big jewels, an ostrich plume coat, little red riding hood hitting the runway and a glove that may be mistaken for a bejeweled skin growth.
Mr. Anderson, the creative director for Chloe, might have smoked a little grass when he was inspired to create this Hippies meet high fashion line for the pre-fall collection at Chloe. It was all about layering—sweater on top of sweater on top of shirt on top of skirt on top of leggings finished with a shoe that speaks for itself. Not to mention that all of these layers are incorporating just about every color that exists within the rainbow. For some it may be a bit much, but I love this new look for Chloe, leaving modernity behind and embracing the free spirit within. What more can I say?
Fabulously yours,
Jennifer Pauline
