Auntie Viv Reads The Kids

"Keep reaching for the STARS because you are NOT ready to style them."
- Vivica A. Fox from Vh1's Glam God.

This has to be the funniest quote I have heard in years! Auntie Viv gets 10's across for it but I have a SMALL question.... When did she become a STYLE ICON?

A little angel came and sat on my shoulder and whispered that into my ear. I'm just baffled and wanted to know! Oh. One more thing... Is it just me or isn't this show ALL kinds of WRETCHED?! I mean I feel like the over-all premise of the show is watered down - boots. I've gotten an inside tip on the winner already and I must admit - I am OVER it.

Make sure you catch an episode ( if you already haven't) on Thursdays @ 10/9 central on Vh1.

Tyson Gets STUPID - In The NUDE

Tyson Beckford dropped down and almost hit the floor with it this past weekend at the Marie Claire cocktail party in Sydney Australia. Shown below flashing his co-host Jackie Frank from the hit-show "Make Me A Supermodel", Tyson showed what life is really like when you have had your share of cocky cocktails! LOL... It gets more interesting...

Let's Talk Art $hall We...

I believe I've shared alot of my secrets here but I don't think I've ever shared my addiction to art. Since I took that art class last semester I have this urge to start collecting art-one day to I hope to have a private collection and gallery-"Yes We Can". I want some of the worlds most expensive pieces shown so here are my top three.

Garçon à la pipeArtist: Pablo Picasso

"Owned by the estate of John Hay Whitney, on May 5, 2004 it sold for $US104.1 million at an auction in Sotheby’s in New York City, after having been given a pre-sale estimate of $70 million by the auction house. Many art critics have stated that the painting’s high sale price has much more to do with the artist’s name than with the merit or historical importance of the painting."

Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I
Artist: Gustav Klimt

"Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I is a painting by Gustav Klimt completed in 1907. According to press reports it was sold for US$135 million to Ronald Lauder for his Neue Galerie in New York City in June 2006, which would make it at that time the most expensive painting ever sold."

Woman III Artist: Willem de Kooning

"Woman III is a painting by abstract expressionist painter Willem de Kooning. Woman III is one of 6 paintings by Kooning in which the central theme was a woman. It measures 68 by 48 1/2 inches and was completed in 1953. In November 2006, the painting was sold by David Geffen to billionare Steven A. Cohen for $137.5 million, making it the second most expensive painting ever sold."

Uh-Oh - Stefano Doesn't See It

According to the New York Times Magazine Stefano Pilati feels that Tom Ford (the successor to the YSL empire) is "talented but NOT gifted". Hmph. I don't know how I take that statement. In the interview he doesn't hold back as he expresses his feelings about the clean cut designer.

"Tom had a very precise vision of the company that didn't challenge women," he said. "Tom is talented but not gifted. That's the way he managed the business. Tom would say: 'We can't do this silhouette because she looks fat.' Or, 'Oh, no - women don't like this fabric; we can't use it.' That mentality was something to learn but was so far from my way of thinking. Why do you want to be safe? I'm more like: Why don't you wear grey flannel for an evening dress? I find that fantastic! Not Tom, never."

Sighs. I suppose when your position is taken on by another GURU - the SHADE is felt. Welp. Let's all sit and wait to see how Ford holds down the fort.

Rising STAR - Floyd Hobson Photography

Searching the dark caves of Facebook and Myspace I have come across several talented and hungry individuals that are eager to test the waters and flex their creative muscle in this vigorous industry. I give to you Floyd Hobson. Owning his own company Hobson Fotografie Inc. - Floyd is a talented and uber-eclectic being that I feel definitely has what it takes to attack this dog eat dog arena. The hidden meanings and messages behind his ART is what intrigued me the most... have a look.
Inspired by Steven Meisel, Marc Baptiste, and Mario Sorrenti Floyd's premise is to combine the high end of Urban fashion with that of European culture. He plans to implement a point of view to where as he can take a regular individual off the street and take them to the apogee of creative expression in the forms of fashion photography.

Comics As They SHOULD Be

This past Spring, fashion weeks across the globe were dominated by "comic book" inspired lines and it has proven to have taken it's toll. From superheros coming to life on the big screen to “Superheros” as the theme of the Costume Institute’s exhibit this year the comic book has come to life in every way. New York Magazine has broken dishes (LMAO) and translated real life fashion (along with designer pieces) into a comic strip that actually conveys! Get in...

VOGUE Hommes Japan Debuts

Avant-garde stylist Nicola Formichetti and noted photographer Hedi Slimane (former Dior Homme designer) has now added another line to their impressive resume. Vogue Hommes debuts September 10 and I am actually eager to review it. Serving as fashion director, Formichetti will have his hands filled with driving this now "beacon" to the TOP with all of the other branches of Vogue across the world. It really does excite me to see a high-fashion inspired element being implemented that's dedicated solely to men.

High Fashion Literature - Edward Steichen

This summer has allowed me the opportunity to really read and RESEARCH about the industry of OLD. With the past being overshadowed by the over saturation of POP these days it is very EASY to lose focus of the origin of fashion - high fashion. Coming across this book allowed me to not only flex my muscle of beautiful photography but it turned on the light of knowledge as I interpreted every aspect of this NOVEL (in my opinion).

Edward Steichen: In High Fashion is the most extensive collection assembled of the legendary photographers’s Vogue and Vanity Fair work available to the public. In 1923 Steichen was offered the chief photographer position for both magazines, the most prestigious position attainable in the commercial photography domain. Through the years Steichen snapped Fred Astaire, Greta Garbo, Gloria Swanson and Charlie Chaplin. Published by W.W.Norton & Company, the book is a companion to a traveling exhibit of Steichen’s fashion photography and celebrity portraits. Included are more than 200 images from the Condé Nast archives, as well as introductory essays from the curators.

It is a MUST read. Beautiful verbiage as well as ART.

Step Into The BAD Side

Its not everyday that I come across a MEN'S shoe that I can't stop staring at and this one has had me at stall about 30 minutes now. Say hello to the John Lobb Everdon model. John Lobb shoes are known for their handcrafted luxury and exclusivity being sold in their namesake stores as well as Hermes stores worldwide. Coming in navy blue calfskin - it allows for the white laces and brown sole to pop and details such as the perforation just complete the look.

Real Business Talk

The best thing I've heard all week : "Gas prices are too motherfcuking high, I’ve been flying back and forth to LA pursuing my acting career. If I fly back and forth twice a month, that’s like $250,000 round trip. Fcuk that! I’m back on American Airlines now . . . and I’m in coach!”-Puff

I just bought a plan ticket to Miami for business and chick over the phone asked me if I wanted to upgrade to business class-hell naw. You could get a one-way ticket for about 75.00 to 120.00 if you purchase them 2 weeks in advance while a business class ticket will run you the price of a round-trip coach style- a lil coach ain't never hurt nobody, hell we both landing at the same terminal. Kiddos save your coins, invest the rest into something...how many of you actually have stock?

Dining With Sydney

She walks in with an oversized white v-neck, jacket resting on the shoulders, skinny jeans and knee high boots-this girl is everything-simple chic. Last week we walked in restaurant number 2, Parish on Highland Ave-they serve some of the best sandwiches. Finding a good restaurant in any city is hard so whenever I get a craving of some sort I always call my best girl Sydney-she knows where all the spots are in Atlanta. If she gives it the green light then I know it's good-she has yet to send me in the wrong direction.

Being a Food Connoisseur we love to hit up places that are low key-which I've noticed serve the best food. Since our last outting at Star Provisions I've been stuck on these sandwiches, that's all I've been eaten for the past week or so. At Parish I ordered the turkey sandwich and you have to have a glass of their fresh mint lemonade, it's the best. m a r q u i s . p h i f e r
