#8 En Vogue - Free Your Mind

This video screams "90's". The energetic, in your face "Free Your Mind" anthem was released due to the 1992 race-related riots that took place in Los Angeles, California from April 29 to May 4, 1992 following the acquittal of the police officers who had beaten Rodney King. The song is also known for its very fashionable, ground-breaking and award-winning music video, directed by Mark Romanek. "Free Your Mind" used the chorus line of a George Clinton song with his permission and it was certified gold by the RIAA in late 1992. It is one of several songs to feature all four members of the group on lead vocals.

Being as FREE as possible, En Vogue held no bars when it came to this edgy video. Leather-strappy looks from trenches, knee-boots (Gareth Pugh anyone?!) and over the top hairstyles this proved to be the most innovative video that the group ever executed (besides "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" which was more glamorous.) The message behind the entire project is what shined even amongst the stand-out wardrobe statements that were made! And lets not mention that the entire video was inspired by a fashion show and centered around a runway.
