How Your Appearance Affects Others.

The power of visuals
Numerous communication studies have demonstrated the power of visuals in human interaction. Some studies have shown that visual cues are 3X to 5X as powerful as audio cues. With clothing covering 90% of your body, it can’t be stressed enough as to how important a role it plays in how you are perceived by others. Want faster & better service in a restaurant? Look like you have money and wear a navy blazer. Want to increase your chances for an A on a college presentation? Wear a sports jacket and pair of slacks. Want instant credibility in a business environment? Wear a suit when making the pitch or meeting with management.

First impressions
Made within a few seconds, first impressions are powerful and should not be taken lightly.. We often observe a person before we speak with them, and being human we look to make sense of what our eyes are showing us. Using our personal experiences, we categorize individuals; we pick-up on a key feature that has meaning to us and then associate that person with it. If what you are wearing is doing all the talking for you, make sure it is sending the message you want.

The power of colors and patterns
Colors and patterns are very powerful; certain ones grab our attention, some accentuate our natural tones, and others affect our emotions. When choosing colors and patterns a man should first understand which ones work for him and which ones do not. Next, he needs to determine what message he wants to send. A man decked out in a pin-striped navy blue suit, blue shirt with white contrasting collar and cuffs, and a red tie screams power and authority. A man wearing a solid brown suit with an earth tone shirt and light colored tie signals trust and openness. Both men were wearing suits, but two very different messages were being conveyed.

D Notes- Shirts & Ties Basic Rules

[ For The Tailored Professional Man ]

Basic rules:
1. As a general rule, you can wear a striped shirt with a striped tie as long as the stripes aren't identical in size.
2. Make sure at least one color in your tie matches either your suit, shirt, or your belt and shoes.
3. Avoid wearing a striped shirt with a striped tie and a pinstriped suit. Matching three similar patterns together is rarely a winning combination.D. Brown

Ladies, Follow These Tips-

[ Or Fellas Too, Depending on Your Role]

1. Always look great, whatever your income. Gorgeous hair and some lipstick and wearing rags will still turn his head. You have the advantage, you are the woman. Look your best as you could meet a potential Mr. Right anywhere at any time.

2. Never reveal information you don't have to.

3. Keep dates brief but your men interested. Less is always more.

4.Let your man pay. If he is interested, he is interested enough to ensure you eat well and get home safely in a cab.

5. If he is available Tuesday, you are available Thursday.

6. Notice what kind of tipper a man is.. “If he is cheap with a waiter, he will be cheap with you"

7. Pay attention to His selection of a meeting location and choice of activities.

8. When departing from each others presence, read his body language. It will give you a sense of his intentions.

9. Don't call your girls to give a review after he has left( whether that night or in the morning).

10. Let him contact you, if he is interested he surely will.

Custom Vs. Off The Rack-D.Brown

[ Broaden Your Minds Gentlemen ] [ My Thoughts ]

1) a bespoke suit will give you the best fit only if your tailor is good. When it's done right it's the best, but it sometimes takes the best to be done right. If you have a average body, then an OTR with alterations will serve you very well at a lesser cost. If you are having trouble though, than you should go custom. The cost for bespoke can sometimes be pretty steep, so you could do a made-to-measure job, which is like 'super alteration' done on an existing pattern.

2) probably OTR and altered--sometimes with photo trickery and pinning. The high price is often based on the brand name, and I really can't see someone like Jon Green even bothering to advertise there.

3) for bespoke you have the power to choose exactly what fabric you want, so if durability is your main criterion, then go for a fabric that will give you that.

4) You should get as close as possible to what you want, as it will make the alterations easier. the parts you want to fit properly are the shoulders, which are the hardest part to alter on a suit coat. Find a good tailor near you and ask him for advice.

Dining Tips From D. Brown

[ It's Informative ]1. Crowds
Look for crowds! An empty restaurant is usually a bad restaurant. There are some trendy retaurants that are always full but have bad food, but you'll be able to tell which ones those are.

2. Manners
Don't be afraid to send food back to the kitchen if it's not to your liking.. New Yorkers tend to speak their minds -- never let manners get in the way of a good meal. Some even go as far as risking arrest to get better service!

3. Reservations
Good restaurants tend to become crowded around 7pm, so make reservations (if possible) or plan to wait for a table. Remember -- there's a reason certain restaurants are crowded. You should be able to tell if the wait is worth it!

4. Tipping
A quick method for calculating the tip is to double the tax. And people please remember that they are working for hours on end and if you arrive at a busy time they can't always rush over to you and treat you like royalty. Patience is a virtue .
